Tech Cosmos
A unified map of every emerging technology

Every emerging technology bends one of five aspects of reality.

Energy. Information. Spacetime. Matter. Biology. Behind the noise of chips, rockets, models, gene scissors and fusion plants is a single five-pillar grammar — the same grammar civilisations have always used, now running at industrial speed. This site maps it.

§01

The Five Pillars

Five megalithic technology families, each with a civilisational goal. Together they cover everything humans now build that did not exist 100 years ago.

01
Energy
Sustainable energy
« Sustainable development of Earth and the cosmos »
Kardashev I → II → III
PhotovoltaicsLithium batteriesHydrogen fuel cellsHeat pumpsElectric vehiclesControlled fusionDyson Sphere

From the sun to the Dyson Sphere. Every civilisation is bounded by how much energy it can capture, store and move. Climbing the Kardashev scale is the project of all projects.

Energy is the master variable. Compute is a derivative of energy. Matter manipulation is a derivative of energy. Even information storage decays unless energy refreshes it.

The civilisational pipeline is photovoltaic glut → battery glut → grid-scale storage → controlled fusion → orbital solar → Dyson swarm. Each step unlocks the next.

China builds 40% of the world's solar; the US is racing on fusion; the Gulf is staking on hydrogen. The first nation to cross 10× cheaper energy will rewrite every other industry from the bottom up.

02
Information
Artificial intelligence
« Total elevation of human intelligence »
Bits → Tokens → Agents
ChipsDigital currencyGenerative AIVirtual realityAutonomous drivingRoboticsQuantum computing

From chips to GPT. Information is the medium through which intelligence becomes substrate-independent — and the substrate of every other pillar's progress.

The history of information is a history of substrate compression: clay tablet → parchment → paper → punch card → silicon → photon → qubit. Each substrate is 100× denser than the last.

Generative AI is the moment information started writing itself. Whatever language a civilisation runs on — math, code, design, biology — AI now speaks it. That changes who can build what.

The next decade is the agentic decade. Single-shot prompts give way to agents that plan, execute, recover and learn. The economic unit becomes the task, not the seat.

03
Spacetime
Spacetime exploration
« Build a galactic civilisation across stars »
LEO → Mars → Stars → Multiverse
Electromagnetic launchReusable rocketsWarp driveSpace colonisationTime travelDimensional transit

From reusable rockets to warp drives. The pillar that turns Earth from a cradle into a port.

Spacetime engineering is where physics is still wild. The Falcon 9 dropped launch cost 30×. Starship aims for another 100×. After that comes electromagnetic launch, then nuclear thermal, then the impossible answers: Alcubierre drives, wormholes.

Every previous engine — chemical, thermal, electromagnetic — converts existing energy into motion. The warp drive does something else entirely: it bends spacetime itself. That is the leap.

The race for Mars is the dress rehearsal. Mastery there qualifies a species for the rest of the galaxy.

04
Matter
Matter transformation
« Explore and understand the multiverse »
Bulk → Crystal → Molecule → Atom → Quark
Nanotechnology3D printingSuperconductorsGrapheneQuantum dots

Atoms on demand. From nanotechnology to quantum dots, we are learning to compose matter the way a programmer composes a function.

For 5000 years we shaped matter by hitting it with hammers. For 200 years we cast it. For 70 we synthesised it from molecules up. Now we print it atom by atom and grow it crystal by crystal.

Programmable matter is the endgame. Superconductors that work at room temperature would re-plumb the energy grid; nanobots that assemble themselves would re-plumb manufacturing; graphene at scale would re-plumb everything that has a surface.

The matter pillar feeds every other one — better solar cells, faster chips, lighter rockets, more durable bodies.

05
Biology
Biological transformation
« Lift the quality of life and the advance of society »
Genome → Cell → Organ → Mind
Gene editingBrain-computer interfaceSynthetic biologyLongevity / anti-ageing

From CRISPR to brain-computer interfaces to longevity. Life itself becomes editable.

DNA is the first language humans learned to read but did not invent. Now we're learning to write in it. CRISPR cut the price of editing a base pair by 10,000× in ten years.

Brain-computer interfaces close the loop between the cortex and the cloud. Once neural input is high-bandwidth, every other tool becomes a thought away.

Longevity is not eternal life; it is the systematic elimination of preventable death. A 30-year extension before 2060 is the working target of multiple labs.

If matter's smallest unit is the atom, biology's is the gene, information's is the token, culture's is the meme, energy's is the photon, trade's is the container — what is spacetime's? The question is open. The answer will name the next economy.

Payfi · Infofi · Enerfi · Chronofi · Spacetimefi · Biofi · Cultufi · Visufi — every domain gets its own 'fi' once its minimum unit becomes liquid.

§08

The Five Elements of Modernity

金 Metal, 木 Wood, 水 Water, 火 Fire, 土 Earth. The same five-element grammar Chinese cosmology has used for 3000 years, re-mapped onto today's political-economic forces.

Metal
Communist PartyIndustrial partyFinance

Hard structures: party-state, heavy industry, capital markets. Crystalline order, slow to bend, hard to break.

Wood
EducationArtificial intelligence

Growing things: education compounds minds; AI compounds models. Both need patience and the right soil.

Water
Data streamsElectricityWaterPetroleumEnergy

Flow: data, current, water, oil. Anything that moves and finds its level. Liquid civilisation.

Fire
Mars factionRockets

Combustion + thrust: the propulsion faction that wants to lift civilisation off-planet.

Earth
FreemasonryLandChips

Substrate: the lithography that prints chips, the mason guilds that print buildings, the dirt that anchors property.

人法地,地法天,天法道,道法自然 — Man follows Earth, Earth follows Heaven, Heaven follows the Dao, the Dao follows what is so of itself. The five elements are not metaphors. They are stable attractors of how power organises matter, energy and information.
